Summary

The projection of airpower warrants the need for a takeoff surface, a safe place to land, and a secure, efficient, and effective airfield environment for Airmen and Aviators. Airfield Management is responsible for routine airport safety inspections, maintenance coordination, oversight of airport pavements, Visual Navigational Aids and Facilities, airfield components, and the enforcement of DoD or Host Nation airfield design criteria. Airfield Management sterilizes the environment to allow the safe passage of aircrew, regulates and enforces ground operation and driving procedures, plans and oversees airport construction, performs National Airspace System flight following , develops a systematized plan for the parking of aircraft, conducts wildlife deterrence, performs emergency response and dispatches first responders as a vital element in the National Incident Management System, and publishes advisories for airport users.

  • Inspect runways, taxiways, parking aprons, lighting and airfield clearance areas.
  • Regulate and enforce ground safety and airfield driving requirements.
  • Respond to flight safety hazards affecting the airfield environment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of navigational aids and airfield regulations
  • Normal color vision
  • Ability to speak distinctly in person and over air-to-ground radios
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicles
  • Completion of a current National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit
  • Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
  • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment

Training Stages

  • BASIC MILITARY TRAINING: 7.5 weeks
  • TECHNICAL TRAINING: 30 days
  • Tech School Location: Keesler AFB, MS
  • Status Upon Completion: Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Aviation Management

Minimum Education

You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. *High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year.
