Summary

When a mission involves dropping explosive devices, everything needs to be in perfect working order. Responsible for maintaining launch and release devices on aircraft, Aircraft Armament Systems specialists ensure that explosive devices can be accurately delivered from our planes. From testing and evaluating new weapons systems to loading ordnance, these professionals make sure that when a pilot pulls the trigger, the devices successfully launch away from the aircraft toward the target.

What You’ll Do

  • Load, unload and position munitions on aircraft.
  • Operationally check and electrically test aircraft weapons release and gun systems.
  • Remove, disassemble and inspect parts that might be damaged.
  • Perform armament systems maintenance functions.
  • Participate in the test and evaluation of new and prototype weapons and weapons systems.

Duties

  • Perform duties related to specialized field requirements.
  • Support Air Force mission objectives through technical expertise.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with other units to accomplish mission requirements.
  • Supervise and train personnel as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience loading and unloading munitions
  • No record of emotional instability
  • Normal depth perception
  • Normal color vision
  • Completion of a current National Agency Check, Local Agency Checks and Credit
  • Complete 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
  • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment

Training Stages

  • BASIC MILITARY TRAINING: 7.5 weeks
  • TECHNICAL TRAINING: 45-86 days
  • TECH SCHOOL LOCATION: Sheppard AFB, TX
  • STATUS UPON COMPLETION: Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Aircraft Armament Systems Technology

Minimum Education

You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. *High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year.
