Summary

From hangars and control towers to tents and temporary disaster relief centers, electricity is paramount to everything we do. It’s the job of Electrical Power Production specialists to ensure that we always have electricity readily available. These experts utilize a vast array of skills and knowledge to do everything from starting up portable generators to maintaining and operating 24-hour power plants that keep all of our bases operating at full capacity. Electrical Power Production specialists also maintain aircraft arresting systems that enable the safe arrestment of hook-tail fighter aircraft.

What You’ll Do

• Determine operational readiness of power production equipment.
• Check installed equipment to ensure compliance with policies.
• Operate high- and low-voltage switches, circuit breakers and other controls.
• Interpret maintenance-malfunction data and electrical wiring diagrams.
• Identify, troubleshoot and repair defective power-generating components.
• Advise on projects associated with electrical power-generating and control systems.

Duties

• Perform duties related to specialized field requirements.
• Support Air Force mission objectives through technical expertise.
• Develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures.
• Coordinate with other units to accomplish mission requirements.
• Supervise and train personnel as required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principles of electronics and electricity
• Posession of a valid state driver’s license to operate government vehicles
• Normal color vision
• Completetion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
• Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment

Training Stages

• BASIC MILITARY TRAINING: 7.5 weeks
• TECHNICAL TRAINING: 55 days
• TECH SCHOOL LOCATION: Sheppard AFB, TX
• STATUS UPON COMPLETION: Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Mechanical & Electrical Technology

Minimum Education

You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. *High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year. Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB.
