Summary

The buildings and structures on each base are integral to every part of Air Force operations. It’s the job of Structural Specialists to construct, repair and modify any buildings and any other structures from the foundation up to the rooftops. These highly trained experts use their specialized skill sets, materials, tools and equipment to build anything we need, from improvised emergency disaster relief shelters to quality of life projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Construct, maintain, plan and repair wooden, masonry and concrete buildings and structures, including concrete footings, foundations, walls, floor slabs, piers and columns.
  • Lay structures according to blueprints, building plans and other directives.
  • Install interior and exterior trim and finishing materials.
  • Repair and install manufactured locking devices.
  • Erect scaffolding and work from ladders and mobile platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Become skilled with metal fabrication & welding techniques.

Duties

  • Perform duties related to specialized field requirements.
  • Support Air Force mission objectives through technical expertise.
  • Develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with other units to accomplish mission requirements.
  • Supervise and train personnel as required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of characteristics and capabilities of equipment used in construction
  • Normal color vision
  • Possession of a valid state driver’s license to operate government motor vehicles
  • Completion of 7.5 weeks of Basic Military Training
  • Must be at least 17, but has not reached age 42 on the date of enlistment

Training Stages

  • BASIC MILITARY TRAINING: 7.5 weeks
  • TECHNICAL TRAINING: 91 Days
  • TECH SCHOOL LOCATION: Gulfport, MS
  • STATUS UPON COMPLETION: Enlisted Airman with credits earned towards Construction Technology

Minimum Education

You must be 17–42 years of age, a U.S. citizen and obtain a qualifying ASVAB score. *High School Students may start their application as early as the end of their junior year. Applicants who are non-graduates or non-alternate credential holders must obtain an AFQT Test score of 65 or higher on the ASVAB.
