43DX - dietitian AFSC Officer
Summary
In order to keep performing at peak capacity, our Airmen need to be in peak mental and physical condition. Responsible for advancing healthy living practices, Dietitians help warfighters make positive lifestyle changes. From conducting personal assessments to implementing unique nutrition plans, these food and nutrition experts enable our Airmen to make decisions that keep them healthy, focused and active.
What You’ll Do
- Provide sound nutrition practices and supportive environments for deployed military operations that optimize human performance.
- Perform a variety of inpatient and outpatient duties, including nutrition assessment and patient education and menu planning.
- Determine requirements for foodservice facilities, personnel, equipment and operations.
- Serve as an adviser to a commander in matters of nutrition and dietetics.
Duties
- Perform duties related to specialized field requirements.
- Support Air Force mission objectives through technical expertise.
- Develop, maintain, and implement standard operating procedures.
- Coordinate with other units to accomplish mission requirements.
- Supervise and train personnel as required.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of human nutrition, regular and therapeutic diets, cultural food habits and foodservice management
- Minimum of 24 months of experience in dietetic assignments
- Completion of Officer Training School course
- Must be between the ages of 18 and have not reached your 42nd birthday

Training Stages
- Officer Training School: 8.5 weeks
- Military Training Location: Maxwell AFB, AL
Minimum Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and completion of a didactic program in dietetics approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND)
