1A9X1 Special Missions Aviation

Special Missions Aviation (1A9X1) personnel perform critical in-flight duties across a wide range of aircraft, ensuring the safe operation and management of aircraft systems, cargo, and passengers. They are responsible for conducting visual inspections of aircraft, operating and monitoring engine and system controls, supervising cargo/passenger loading and offloading, computing aircraft weight and balance, and performing airdrops. Additionally, they operate armament systems, Full Motion Video (FMV) systems, and other mission-specific equipment under various conditions.

  • Manage, supervise, and perform special missions aviation functions, ensuring adherence to safety and operational standards

Specialty Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Mandatory understanding of aircraft systems, flight theory, minor in-flight maintenance, and emergency procedures. Proficiency in using technical publications, diagrams, and flight manuals, with knowledge in cargo restraint techniques, communications, and airborne weapons systems.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with recommended courses in mechanics, mathematics, physics, and computers.
  • Training: Completion of Aircrew Fundamentals and Special Missions Aviation courses is mandatory.
  • Experience: Experience in aircraft systems maintenance, inspections, cargo loading, and airdrop techniques. Advanced qualifications require experience in supervising special missions aviation activities and managing functions related to aircraft operations and mission execution.
