SERE Specialists (1T0X1) develop, conduct, manage, and evaluate Air Force Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) programs. They prepare Air Force personnel to survive in a wide range of environments and under various conditions, including captivity. SERE Specialists operate in diverse geographic disciplines and support Combatant Commanders in Personnel Recovery (PR) preparation, planning, execution, and adaptation.

Entry Requirements

  • ASVAB: General score of 55
  • Physical: Ability to lift 70 lbs, successful completion of the SERE Physical Ability and Stamina Test (PAST), normal color vision, depth perception, and speech clarity.
  • Other: Minimum score on SERE selection model, absence of speech impediment, specialty requires routine access to Secret material.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and conducts SERE training.
  • Develops and implements SERE and PR joint tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Supports operational tasking for theater and Joint Forces Commanders as a SERE and PR subject matter expert.
  • Manages SERE programs including ISOPREP, evasion plans of action, blood chits, evasion charts, and PR aids.
  • Instructs and performs basic, advanced, and emergency military parachuting.
  • Conducts developmental and operational testing on SERE-related equipment.

Specialty Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Understanding of global SERE principles, PR preparation, diverse geographic environments, conduct after capture, emergency parachuting procedures, and survival medicine.
  • Education: High school completion required. Courses in survival techniques, emergency medical training, and parachuting are beneficial.
  • Training: Includes various courses at Lackland AFB and Fairchild AFB, covering survival skills, evasion tactics, resistance training, and escape techniques.
  • Experience: Experience teaching and applying SERE principles, performing emergency parachuting procedures, and conducting PR operations is required for progression.
