Overview of 1Z2X1 – Combat Control (CCT) AFSC

Combat Control (CCT) specialists, with the AFSC 1Z2X1, are experts in command, control, communications, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C3ISR). They are integral in applying lethal and non-lethal airpower across the full spectrum of military operations. CCTs are proficient in air traffic control and targeting, enabling precision navigation and the control of air strikes, including close air support (CAS). They operate in varied environments and conditions to provide C3ISR support.

Prerequisites

  • ASVAB Scores: General: 55, Mechanical: 55
  • Strength: Must be able to lift 70 lbs
  • Completion of CCT physical ability and stamina test (PAST)
  • Minimum score of 30 on CCT selection model in TAPAS
  • Secret security clearance requirement

  • Duration: 179 Days
  • Locations: Lackland AFB, Keesler AFB, Fort Benning, Fairchild AFB, Pope AFB
  • CCAF Degree: Air Traffic Operations and Management

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, organizing, and supervising ATC and targeting activities
  • Operating portable and mobile communications, and navigational aids
  • Performing reconnaissance and surveillance functions
  • Establishing and marking assault zones with navigational aids
  • Directing actions for aircraft emergencies or mishaps

Specialty Qualifications

  • Knowledge: Command and control principles, ATC, reconnaissance, air power control, aircraft flight characteristics, tactical airlift, weapons delivery, air and surface firepower systems, meteorology principles, deployment procedures, small unit tactics, amphibious operations, small arms, and demolitions.
  • Education: High school completion is desirable.
  • Training: Includes Combat Control Selection Course, Combat Control Operator Course, Combat Survival, Airborne Course, and Combat Control School.
  • Experience: Progression through various levels of CCT duties from reconnaissance and terminal control to supervising and managing CCT operations.
