Aircrew Flight Equipment Specialists (1P0X1) play a crucial role in managing, inspecting, maintaining, and adjusting aircrew flight equipment (AFE), aircrew chemical defense equipment (ACDE), and associated supplies. They ensure the operational readiness of all assigned AFE and ACDE, perform maintenance on aerospace weapon system components, and are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of equipment used by aircrew members during flight operations.

Entry Requirements
- ASVAB: Mechanical score of 40
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 70 lbs, normal color vision, clear speech, visual acuity correctable to 20/20, no claustrophobia, and must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- Security Clearance: Routine access to Secret material.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspects, maintains, and adjusts AFE and ACDE, ensuring equipment is ready for use by aircrew.
- Disassembles, assembles, inspects, fabricates, cleans, repairs, and packs protective clothing, flotation devices, emergency evacuation systems, parachutes, and other AFE components.
- Conducts aircrew chemical defense and continuation training.
- Prepares for and responds to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear weapons contamination.
- Operates and maintains AFE machinery, test equipment, and tools, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of flight equipment.
Specialty Qualifications
- Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of AFE inspection and maintenance procedures, effects of various environmental factors on equipment, proper handling of hazardous materials, supply procedures, principles of contamination control, and aircrew training requirements.
- Education: High school completion with courses in speech, general science, shop mechanics, and basic computer applications is preferred.
- Training: Mandatory completion of the basic AFE apprentice course for award of AFSC 1P031.
- Experience: Progressive experience in AFE functions, including equipment inspections, aircrew training, quality assurance, and supervisory roles, is required for advancement within the AFSC.
