Duties and Responsibilities:
2A2X3 technicians are tasked with:
- Operating and maintaining EW systems to analyze equipment operating characteristics and isolate malfunctions.
- Removing, installing, checking, and repairing avionics systems and line-replaceable units (LRU).
- Diagnosing malfunctions using technical orders, schematics, wiring diagrams, integrated test systems, and other test equipment.
- Modifying avionics systems according to technical publications and updating maintenance records.
- Performing and supervising the alignment, calibration, and boresight of avionics systems.
- Managing off-equipment maintenance of avionics LRUs and support equipment (SE).
Specialty Qualifications:
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical, wiring, and electronic circuit diagrams; electronic, microprocessor, data bus principles; and the theory of flight.
- In-depth knowledge of EW systems, including radar, radio frequency communication, and electronic countermeasure transmitters and receivers.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent, with recommended courses in physics, computers, and mathematics.
Training:
- Mandatory completion of the basic avionics systems course for initial AFSC award.
- Craftsman course completion is required for advanced qualification.
Experience:
- Experience in isolating malfunctions, handling LRUs, and utilizing test and ground support equipment is necessary for progression through the AFSC.
