Duties and Responsibilities:

2A3X7 technicians are responsible for:

  • Sortie generation, ground handling, servicing, and hot pit refuels.
  • Conducting preflight, thru-flight, end-of-runway, postflight, special inspections, and phase inspections.
  • Using technical data to diagnose and solve maintenance problems on aircraft systems.
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining aircraft structures, engines, hydraulic systems, and other related systems.
  • Removing and installing aircraft and engine components and conducting operational checks.
  • Performing aircraft jacking, lifting, and towing operations.
  • Conducting weight and balance functions and operating powered and non-powered aerospace ground equipment.
  • Coordinating maintenance plans and schedules to meet operational requirements and performing crash recovery duties.

Specialty Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Mandatory knowledge of aircraft systems, flight theory, hydraulic and electrical principles, maintenance directives, technical order use, Air Force supply procedures, and hazardous waste management.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory. Related vocational courses are highly desirable.

Training:

  • Completion of a suffix-specific basic aircraft maintenance course for initial AFSC award.
  • Advanced training and a craftsman aircraft maintenance course for higher skill levels.

Experience:

  • Experience requirements include qualification in lower-level AFSCs, along with practical experience in repairing, maintaining, installing, and inspecting aircraft and related systems.
