Duties and Responsibilities:

2A5X2 technicians are responsible for:

  • Conducting sortie generation, ground handling, and servicing operations.
  • Performing various aircraft inspections, including preflight, thru-flight, postflight, and phase inspections.
  • Diagnosing and solving maintenance problems using technical data and advising on maintenance procedures.
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, and maintaining aircraft structures, engines, hydraulic systems, and other related systems.
  • Rigging, tracking, and balancing rotor systems, including in-flight balancing.
  • Managing inspection and maintenance records and coordinating maintenance plans to meet operational needs.
  • Supervising and assisting in aircraft launch and recovery operations.

Knowledge: Essential knowledge includes aircraft systems principles, flight theory, hydraulic and electrical theories, maintenance directives application, and hazardous waste management.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory, with related vocational courses highly desirable.

Training: Completion of a suffix-specific basic aircraft maintenance course for initial AFSC award, followed by a craftsman aircraft maintenance course for advanced qualifications.

Experience: Progression through the AFSC requires qualification in lower-level AFSCs, along with practical experience in aircraft maintenance tasks.
