Entry Requirements for 2A7X2:

Duties and Responsibilities:

2A7X2 technicians are responsible for:

  • Determining the appropriate nondestructive inspection test method and preparing fluids and parts for inspection.
  • Interpreting NDI test results and providing defect information for repairs.
  • Analyzing wear metal content in engine oil and other fluids to recommend corrective actions.
  • Performing NDI on aircraft structures, components, and systems using various methods such as penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, and ultrasonic equipment.
  • Operating, maintaining, and inspecting NDI equipment and ensuring safety and radiation monitoring procedures are followed.

Specialty Qualifications:

Knowledge: Essential knowledge includes metal characteristics identification, wear metals identification, flaw detection techniques, NDI equipment operation and maintenance, safety practices, and hazardous waste management.

Education: High school diploma with courses in mathematics, chemistry, industrial technology, physics, shop, and computer knowledge is desirable.

Training: Mandatory completion of a basic nondestructive inspection course for entry into this specialty.

Experience:

  • 2A752: Requires experience in flaw detection, equipment calibration, safety directives, and hazardous waste programs.
  • 2A772: Advanced experience includes supervising NDI laboratory functions.
