3D1X1 Client Systems

The 3D1X1 AFSC, known as Client Systems, plays a vital role in the Air Force’s cyber operations by deploying, sustaining, troubleshooting, and repairing standard voice, data, video network, cryptographic client devices, and managing user accounts in both fixed and deployed environments. These professionals ensure the optimal performance of various communication systems, contributing significantly to the operational readiness and cybersecurity posture of the Air Force.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Support and Maintenance: Manage hardware and software configurations, perform troubleshooting, and conduct repairs to restore system operations. This includes managing client-level information technology support functions, configuring management systems, and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
  • Installation and Configuration: Install and configure software operating systems and applications, ensuring the proper setup of information systems and the restoration of system configurations when necessary.
  • Security Incident Management: Report security incidents and execute corrective security procedures to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of information systems.
  • Voice Network Management: Manage client-level voice network functions, including hardware and software management, configuration, and troubleshooting from the wall outlet to the client device.
  • Wireless Communication Systems: Perform client-level functions related to Personal Wireless Communication Systems (PWCS), excluding Land Mobile Radios (LMRs), managing hardware, software, and cryptographic items.
  • Sustainment Activities Planning: Plan and direct maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with technical data, safety standards, and work standards. Evaluate base or command sustainment programs and manage client device accounts.

Training and Qualifications:

  • Tech School: Initial skills training for 3D1X1 is conducted at Keesler AFB over 67 days, focusing on Information Systems Technology.
  • Education: Completion of high school or GED is mandatory, with additional courses in business, mathematics, computer science, or information technology being desirable.
  • Experience: Progression through the AFSC requires experience in client systems support and the management of information systems.

Specialty Qualifications:

  • Knowledge: Must possess knowledge of IT fundamentals, test equipment, special tools, maintenance management, and security practices.
  • Security Clearance: This role typically requires access to Secret material, necessitating a high level of security clearance.
