4A2X1 Biomedical Equipment

4A2X1 is the Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) for Biomedical Equipment Technicians (BMETs). BMETs are responsible for: Providing technical guidance and intermediate maintenance support on medical equipment systems Installing, inspecting, repairing, and modifying biomedical equipment and support systems Performing pre-purchase evaluations of medical devices Maintaining, calibrating, and repairing a wide range of medical devices BMETs are assigned to regional Medical Equipment Repair Centers. They may also direct the facility management program. To become a BMET, you generally need an associate’s degree in biomedical technology or engineering. However, a bachelor’s degree is sometimes required to work with more specialized equipment. A bachelor’s degree can also provide opportunities for advancement.
