12Y Geospatial Engineer
The Army’s military occupational specialty (MOS) 12Y is a geospatial engineer. Geospatial engineers collect, analyze, and distribute geographic data to support military and civilian operations. They use this information to show the terrain and any possible effects.
Geospatial engineers are a necessary component of All Source Intelligence and Battle Command. They manage the geospatial foundation of the Common Operating Picture (COP).

Geospatial engineers are vital to the collection of sensitive geographic data. They present this information to commanding officers to inform them of critical aspects of the terrain. This information can be invaluable when commanders send troops into new and unfamiliar terrain.
