12P Prime Power Production Specialist
The Army MOS 12P is a Prime Power Production Specialist. These specialists work for the Army Corps of Engineers to maintain the Army’s electrical power plants. They perform electrical assessments, facilities maintenance, and QA/QC operations. They also supervise, operate, install, and maintain electric power plants and associated auxiliary systems and equipment.
12P soldiers can be called on to respond to natural disasters and turn the power back on to affected communities. They can also set up forward power plants to operate bases.
The 12P MOS is a voluntary reclassification. Service members do not need to be in their re-enlistment window to apply. Army Reserve Soldiers are also encouraged to apply.
The training program is a year-long, two-phase program. After the initial 12P course, students are assigned to an Additional Skill Identifier (ASI).
The 12P MOS has direct correlations to the civilian workforce. This makes it possible to find work after transitioning from active duty service.
