13A Field Artillery, General
The military occupational specialty (MOS) 13A is a Field Artillery Officer. The Field Artillery Branch is responsible for neutralizing the enemy with cannon, rocket, and missile fire. The Field Artillery Officer leads the branch and must be an expert in tactics, techniques, and procedures for using fire support systems.
The Field Artillery Officer’s duties include: Commanding or assisting the commander of field artillery units Planning, coordinating, and directing field artillery activities Conducting and directing field artillery training, convoys, and activities Providing indirect fire of HE and illumination to supported units Maintaining the operability of howitzers and supporting vehicles and communications equipment Coordinating the efforts of Forward Observer
The Field Artillery Officer must have knowledge of field artillery systems and experience at various staff levels.
