13F Joint Fire Support Specialist
The military occupational specialty (MOS) 13F is a Fire Support Specialist. These soldiers are responsible for providing artillery, mortar, and naval gunfire support to infantry and other ground units during combat. They are also skilled at gathering intelligence and locating key enemy targets.
Fire Support Specialists are also called forward observers. They are responsible for leading, supervising, or serving in intelligence activities such as target processing for artillery units and brigade maneuvers. They can be assigned to any unit with an Artillery Battalion. Fire Support Specialists have duties such as: Establishing communications Encoding and decoding messages Coordinating the strikes of targets Selecting and occupying observation post Orienting map and preparing terrain sketch and visibility diagram
