18C Special Forces Communications Sergeant
The Army MOS 18C is the Special Forces Engineer Sergeant. These soldiers perform and teach operations in explosives, demolitions, and landmines. They also perform and teach construction activities such as bridges, electrical wiring, and civil action projects.
The Special Forces Engineer Sergeants are part of a Special Forces Operational Detachment - Alpha (ODA). They train, supervise, lead, plan, and instruct all phases of combat engineering and special operations engineering during combat operations. They also advise the Detachment commander and foreign forces.
The Special Forces Engineer Sergeants conduct offensive raids, demolitions, intelligence, search and rescue, and other missions from air, land, or sea.
The 18C course is 13 weeks long. Students who are engineer qualified become experts in building techniques, defensive fortifications, explosives, booby traps, and land mines.
All Special Forces Engineer Sergeants are required to be qualified parachutists. They also need good eyesight and physical conditioning. They need excellent hand-eye coordination for detonating or deactivating explosives.
