19K M1 Armor Crewman

The MOS 19K, or M1 Armor Crewman, is an essential role in the U.S. Army. These highly trained soldiers operate and maintain the M1 Abrams tank, which is the backbone of the Army’s armored forces. They work as part of a team to operate tanks and assault vehicles and fire weapons to destroy enemy positions.

During combat, their role is to operate tanks and amphibious assault vehicles to engage and destroy the enemy. They use mobility, firepower, and shock effect to close with and extinguish enemy forces. MOS 19K soldiers receive a combination of classroom learning and practical field training. The duration of AIT is five weeks and includes an emphasis on tank operations, armor offensive and defensive tactics, field combat strategy, and map reading.

Soldiers applying for this MOS attend 22 weeks of one station unit training at the U.S. Army Armor School located at Fort Benning, Georgia. M1 armor crewman salaries range between $24,000 and $108,000 per year.
