38B Civil Affairs Specialist
The Army MOS 38B is a Civil Affairs Specialist. These soldiers are responsible for being a non-lethal liaison for local citizens in combat or crisis situations. They operate in teams to support both conventional and special operations forces.
The five core tasks of a Civil Affairs Specialist are: Civil Information Management Foreign Humanitarian Assistance Nation Assistance Population Resource Control Support to Civil Administration
Civil Affairs Specialists are required to be ready to deploy at any time, to any location. They are also responsible for: Researching Coordinating Conducting Participating in the planning and production of civil-affairs related documents Enabling the civil-military operations of the supported commander
Civil Affairs Specialists were established in 1955. They are a smaller organization, so many leaders have oversight over routine training requirements. Each team must be experts in their craft.
