40C Army Astronaut

The Army MOS 40C is the Army Astronaut MOS. Army astronauts perform space flight duties for NASA.

They may serve as: Space Shuttle Mission Specialist International Space Station Commander, Flight Engineer, or Science Officer Capsule Communicator (CAPCOM) Crew Support Astronaut Kennedy Space Center Support Astronaut

Army astronauts train for future space shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) assembly and flight operations. They also develop, integrate, and implement manned space flight hardware and software.

Active duty Army personnel who are admitted to NASA’s Astronaut Candidate Program can complete a two-year training process and serve as an astronaut while serving on active duty.

The Army Astronaut Program is part of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Astronaut Detachment.
