42R Musician
The Army Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 42R is for Army Bandspersons. These musicians play in or lead bands, orchestras, combos, jazz groups, or small ensembles. They perform for ceremonies, parades, concerts, festivals, and dances. They must be able to play all styles of music.
Army Bandspersons specialize in one or more of the following instruments: Tuba, Trombone, Euphonium, Bassoon, Saxophone, Flute or Piccolo, Oboe, Clarinet, French Horn, Percussion, Cornet or Trumpet, Guitar, Keyboard.
Army Bandspersons must also have one or more additional skill identifiers on certain instruments. They may play in ceremonial bands, jazz bands, or small ensembles. They may also perform auxiliary percussion in a ceremonial band.
