68W Combat Medic Specialist
68W is the military occupational specialty code (MOS) for a Healthcare Specialist in the Army. The 68W is responsible for providing emergency medical treatment to wounded personnel on the battlefield. They also provide limited primary care, health protection, and evacuation for patients.
The 68W can have different responsibilities depending on the unit they are assigned to. For example, they may work in a clinical setting and be assigned to a medical unit. In this role, they may do everything from sick call to immunizations clinics.
The 68W may also: Assist with care in medical care facilities Manage medical readiness for soldiers, including medical supplies and equipment Work as instructors for soldiers in the Combat First Respond and Lifesaver course
The 68W is the second largest MOS in the Army, second only to the Infantry. The 16-week Combat Medic Specialist Training Program (CMSTP) trains 68Ws in the foundational skills necessary to become an effective Combat Medic Specialist on the battlefield.
