73A Social Work
The Army’s military occupational specialty (MOS) 73A is for social workers. These commissioned officers have a graduate degree in social work and perform a variety of social work functions.
These include: Critical event debriefings Psychological autopsies Suicide prevention Clinical counseling Disaster relief Crisis interventions Substance abuse interventions Teaching and training Supervision Research Administration Consultation Policy
To qualify for the 73A position, you must: Have a Master’s degree in social work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education Have a current, unrestricted license for practice Be between 21 and 42 years of age
Military social workers can help service members cope with PTSD, depression, and addiction. They can also help them transition to civilian life by connecting them with child care, employment resources, and housing opportunities.
