79S Career Counselor
The Army’s Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 79S is for Career Counselors.
The primary duties of a 79S Career Counselor are to: Advise commanders on the Army Retention Program Reenlist, counsel, and extend soldiers in the active and reserve components Process reclassifications Process bars to reenlistment
79S Career Counselors also help commanders maintain the Army’s readiness and achieve their retention mission. They provide service to four companies consisting of 491 soldiers.
To become a 79S Career Counselor, you must score at least 100 in aptitude area GT and 100 in aptitude area ST on the Armed Services Vocational aptitude Battery (ASVAB) tests administered before January 2, 2002. If you took the test on or after January 2, 2002, you must score at least 100 in aptitude area GT and 96 in aptitude area ST.
