An EBT card does not provide a government iPad entitlement. SNAP pays for eligible food; SNAP enrollment can serve as eligibility evidence for some separate assistance programs. You need a current, specific device offer before expecting an iPad.
Why old ACP instructions no longer work
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its internet and device discounts are no longer available, and new applications are closed. Its former connected-device discount could cover an eligible tablet through a participating provider, but never guaranteed an Apple iPad or a zero-dollar purchase.
Where to look now
For a computer or tablet, check PCs for People and Human-I-T. These nonprofits publish their own eligibility and pricing rules. Low-cost devices are not necessarily free; any donated-device offer depends on funding and stock.
Check the current inventory before applying. A program may offer Android tablets or laptops rather than iPads. If Apple-only apps are important, confirm the iPad model, supported iPadOS version, storage, and whether a charger is included.
Schools and libraries may lend tablets. Ask about residency or student requirements, loan periods, internet access, and responsibility for loss or damage.
Internet service is separate
SNAP is a Lifeline qualifying program. Lifeline discounts eligible monthly phone or internet service, not the retail price of an iPad. A provider promotion may have separate device charges or service requirements.
A Wi-Fi-only iPad cannot use a cellular plan directly. It needs Wi-Fi or a hotspot. A cellular model also needs compatibility with the chosen carrier and usually a separate data arrangement.
Before submitting documents
Read the device program’s eligibility page and total price. Confirm whether a SNAP award letter is accepted and apply only through the organization’s official process. Do not submit an ACP application or assume an EBT card alone guarantees approval.
