You cannot get an iPhone through an EBB application today. The Emergency Broadband Benefit transitioned to ACP on December 31, 2021; the transition was not in 2023. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its internet and device discounts are no longer available, and new applications are closed.

What old EBB phone advertisements meant

EBB subsidized broadband service. Its separate connected-device discount covered eligible laptops, desktop computers, and tablets, with a required customer contribution. It did not guarantee an iPhone. Carriers could market their own phone promotions alongside subsidized service.

Old carrier lists, approval-time estimates, and promised iPhone delivery dates do not establish a current offer. Check the provider’s present catalog and terms rather than submitting an EBB form.

Can Lifeline help with an iPhone?

Lifeline has separate eligibility rules: household income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or participation in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or specified Tribal programs. Former ACP enrollment alone does not qualify a household.

Lifeline reduces qualifying monthly service costs. A participating company may separately offer a free or discounted phone. An iPhone, a particular model, and a zero-dollar device price are not guaranteed federal benefits.

Before choosing an offer, confirm:

  • the exact model, storage, condition, and software support;
  • any device charge, shipping fee, or activation charge;
  • the monthly plan price and data allowance;
  • warranty, return, and unlocking rules;
  • whether you can bring a compatible phone you already own.

Apply for service, then compare devices

Follow Lifeline’s application instructions and select a participating provider after approval. If an iPhone offer is unavailable or too expensive, compare a refurbished device with a compatible bring-your-own-device plan. Compare the total service cost over the commitment period before accepting a commercial carrier promotion.
