The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its monthly internet discount and connected-device discount are no longer available. There is no current ACP application or renewal. Searching for a “free laptop ACP” application will not reopen the former device benefit.

How the old laptop discount worked

ACP offered up to $100 toward an eligible laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from a participating provider. The household had to pay more than $10 and less than $50. It was a device discount with a required contribution, rather than a guaranteed free laptop or an unrestricted retail voucher.

Any current computer offer must be funded and authorized separately from ACP. Check its actual sponsor, eligibility, price, and stock.

Does Lifeline offer replacement laptop funding?

No. Lifeline is a monthly service discount; it does not contain a federal laptop payment. Qualifying for Lifeline does not reserve a computer. A company’s separate device promotion must be evaluated on its own terms.

Lifeline eligibility is separate: household income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or participation in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or specified Tribal programs. Former ACP enrollment does not automatically qualify a household.

If you need the service discount as well, start with USAC’s application instructions. California, Oregon, and Texas have state-specific processes. After approval, choose a participating provider serving your address and complete enrollment with that company. Check the total monthly charge, data allowance, and any equipment cost before agreeing.

Where to look for a computer now

PCs for People and Human-I-T publish eligibility information for low-cost computers and other devices. Their prices, stock, and any donation opportunities are separate from Lifeline. Ask a school, library, or local community organization about loaned equipment or funded device assistance as well.

Students can ask their school or college about loaned computers and emergency technology funds. People working with a workforce center or vocational rehabilitation agency can ask whether equipment assistance is available for their specific training or employment plan. Local availability is not guaranteed.

Compare the complete cost

Before accepting an offer, confirm the processor, memory, operating system, battery condition, warranty, shipping, and return terms. Ask whether paid internet service is required and whether canceling it creates an equipment charge. A low price is useful only if the computer can run the applications you need.

Do not pay an application fee to restore ACP: the program is closed. Use the organization’s own official site and current written terms instead of old ACP application pages.
