Food stamps do not include a free-laptop benefit. SNAP pays for eligible food, while a nonprofit or local device program may accept current SNAP enrollment as evidence that you meet its own eligibility rules.
EBB and ACP are closed
The Emergency Broadband Benefit transitioned to ACP in December 2021. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its internet and device discounts are no longer available, and new applications are closed. You cannot apply for either program to receive a laptop now.
Current device options
PCs for People sells low-cost refurbished computers to customers who meet its income or assistance-program requirements. It accepts current SNAP documentation as one route to eligibility. Check inventory, price, shipping, and warranty before ordering.
Human-I-T also offers low-cost devices and may have additional assistance subject to its own rules. Ask schools, libraries, and workforce programs about equipment loans or local grants.
Apply to the device organization
Read its requirements, gather only the documents it requests, and submit them through its official website or office. An EBT card alone may not show current participation; a dated benefit letter may be required.
A SNAP office does not automatically issue a laptop because you ask. Do not rely on a universal employment-hours or bank-balance test quoted by a device article; SNAP eligibility and device-program eligibility are separate questions.
Internet access
SNAP can qualify a household for Lifeline service assistance, but Lifeline does not pay for a retail laptop. Compare internet costs separately and confirm whether a device offer includes any connectivity.
