The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its internet and device discounts are no longer available, and new applications are closed. There is no current ACP tablet application, recertification deadline, or delivery timeline.

What the former tablet discount covered

A participating provider could apply up to $100 toward one eligible laptop, desktop computer, or tablet per household. The household had to pay more than $10 and less than $50. The subsidy did not guarantee a new tablet, a particular brand, or free service forever.

Why old qualification instructions are misleading

Old ACP rules included income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines and certain assistance programs. Being enrolled in WIC, SNAP, or a school meal program does not reopen ACP. Its application freeze began February 8, 2024.

Do not send documents to a page claiming to enroll you in ACP now. A provider may have a different current offer, but it should identify its funding, eligibility, and charges clearly.

Find a device separately from service

For a computer or tablet, check PCs for People and Human-I-T. These nonprofits publish their own eligibility and pricing rules. Low-cost devices are not necessarily free; any donated-device offer depends on funding and stock.

Ask local schools and libraries about equipment loans. For a purchase, compare the operating system, software-update support, battery, charger, warranty, and returns. Confirm whether mobile data is included or billed separately.

Lifeline is a different benefit

Lifeline has separate eligibility rules: household income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or participation in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or specified Tribal programs. Former ACP enrollment alone does not qualify a household.

Lifeline helps with monthly service. A free or discounted tablet would be an independent provider promotion, not the former ACP device subsidy. Read the exact offer before choosing a plan or transferring an existing benefit.
