There is no current Walmart ACP or EBB laptop benefit to apply for. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) ended on June 1, 2024. Its internet and device discounts are no longer available, and new applications are closed. EBB had already transitioned to ACP in December 2021.

The former instructions on this page described a Walmart application process without a verified program source. They should not be used to send personal documents or to expect approval for a free laptop.

What ACP actually covered

ACP offered a one-time discount through participating broadband providers on an eligible laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. The discount was up to $100 and required the household to pay more than $10 and less than $50. It was not a voucher redeemable for any Walmart computer and did not guarantee a free device.

A normal Walmart retail sale, financing offer, or marketplace listing is separate from federal benefits. Review the seller, total price, return policy, and warranty before purchasing.

Where to look for an affordable laptop

For a computer or tablet, check PCs for People and Human-I-T. These nonprofits publish their own eligibility and pricing rules. Low-cost devices are not necessarily free; any donated-device offer depends on funding and stock.

Students can ask their school or college about device loans, emergency aid, and technology grants. Local libraries may offer computers for use on site or equipment loans. Availability and ownership rules vary.

Prepare for a legitimate application

Read the chosen organization’s eligibility page before collecting documents. A nonprofit may ask for proof of income or current assistance-program participation. Submit documents only through its verified application process; an old ACP form cannot create a new benefit.

Check whether the laptop includes an operating system, charger, warranty, and enough memory for your work. Ask about shipping charges and whether an advertised price is before or after any separate grant.

Internet service is a separate expense

Lifeline has separate eligibility rules: household income at or below 135% of the federal poverty guidelines, or participation in SNAP, Medicaid, SSI, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Veterans Pension and Survivors Benefit, or specified Tribal programs. Former ACP enrollment alone does not qualify a household.

Lifeline assists with qualifying monthly service. It does not provide a replacement $100 laptop grant or automatically pay for a retail computer.
