1171 technician

The Marine Corps MOS 1171 is a Water Support Technician. These technicians perform water purification processes to provide potable water for military and civilian personnel. They also: Perform testing Assist with plumbing installation and repair Complete maintenance on various water systems Install, operate, inspect, and perform preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, water filtration/purification equipment, water storage/distribution systems, and laundry and shower facilities Plan, install, and repair the plumbing systems of structures

During Humanitarian Assistance and Civil-Military Operations, water support technicians also perform these duties: Cutting, bending, and threading pipes Conducting an Operational Risk Assessment Controlling hazardous energy Reacting to a hazardous materials spill Administering first aid for chemical ingestion Identifying required publications Conducting an sl-3 inventory Conducting a limited technical inspection Documenting equipment operation history

The Marine Corps offers an Advanced Water System Technician Course to provide designated advanced level training to Water Support Technicians.
