1316 metal worker
The Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 1316 is a Metal Worker. Metal Workers are responsible for welding and metalworking tasks. They install, operate, maintain, and repair metalworking and welding equipment and materials. They also examine drawings and work orders to determine the sequence of operations, materials, tools, equipment, time, and personnel required.
To qualify as a Metal Worker, recruits must score a 95 or higher on the Mechanical Maintenance portion of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test. They are trained on different welding systems available to both the Marine Corps and civilians.
Metal Workers work in a weld shop and weld a lot. They may end up at a larger platoon at one of the Maintenance Bns or a smaller one.
