5512 drum and bugle

The Marine Corps Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) code 5512 is for members of the Drum and Bugle Corps (D&B). The D&B performs music or music-related duties to support military ceremonies, official functions, community relations, and Marine Corps recruiting. The D&B also augments barracks security.

The drum major leads the D&B in concerts, parades, and other official ceremonies. The drum major also instructs D&B personnel in drill manual and maneuver. The drum major has a working knowledge of personnel, general, and operational administrative procedures.

Other duties for members of the D&B include: Training or assisting in the training of musician personnel Acting as a section leader, supply NCO, music librarian, storeroom keeper, or arranger Conducting preventive maintenance for musical equipment

The D&B’s secondary mission is to augment barracks security.
