The Marine Corps MOS 5711 is a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Defense Specialist. These specialists are responsible for the survival and operation of their unit in a chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear environment. They train their unit and take measures to remove the threat of chemical or biological warfare.

CBRN specialists also: Conduct CBRN reconnaissance and surveillance Perform decontamination operations Conduct obscuration operations Operate and perform operator maintenance on assigned CBRN defense and individual CBRN protective equipment

CBRN specialists protect the country against the threat of CBRN weapons of mass destruction. They also decontaminate hazardous material spills or accidents.
