0261 - Geospatial Intelligence Specialist
Summary
MOS 0261, Geospatial Intelligence Specialist is an entry level primary MOS.
Geospatial Intelligence Specialists are involved in all activities that are related to the planning, processing, analysis, exploitation, and dissemination of spatial information that is used to gain intelligence concerning the operational environment.
These specialists are expected to provide timely, relevant, and accurate geospatial intelligence for planning, decision-making, and action in support of Marine Corps, Joint, and Combined Operations.
Using data regarding, terrain, inland and coastal water, climatology, meteorology, and cultural intelligence, geospatial intelligence specialists are able to visually depict this information and fuse it with other information through analysis to display a single, comprehensive picture of the operational area for the commander.
Prerequisites
Must be a U.S.
citizen.
Must possess a CL Score of 110 or GT score of 110 or higher.
Prior to conducting the latmove interview, all applicants are required to complete a security screening with the special security officer (SSO).
Security requirement: must meet sensitive compartmented information (SCI) eligibility guidelines based on a single scope background investigation/T5 investigation.
Must have normal color vision and normal stereoscopic acuity.
Requirements
Must successfully complete the Basic Geographic Intelligence Specialist (BGIS) Course (N46HB22), Marine Corps Detachment Dam Neck, VA.
All Marines requesting a lateral move to MOS 0261, USMC and USMCR, must have a screening interview conducted by a 0261 GySgt or above.
Interview waivers can be granted only by the 02 OccFld Manager or CMC (MM).
Latmove Marines must be a Corporal or below of any MOS, however, Sergeants may be considered if otherwise exceptionally qualified and have less than 12 months time in grade.
Marines who execute a lateral move to the 0261 MOS must attend PMOS training within 6 months.
Must have 36 months obligated service remaining upon completion of MOS training.
