1704 - Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) Planner

Summary

Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations (EMSO) Planners plan, integrate, coordinate, supervise, de-conflict, and assess fleet marine force (FMF) actions that exploit, attack, protect, and manage the electromagnetic environment (EME) and electromagnetic battlespace in support of naval and FMF objectives.

EMSO Planners advocate for and integrate ground and air offensive, defensive, and EMSO support capabilities in tactical and operational level plans, operations, and activities in support of information.

Working primarily at the MEF information group (MIG) information command center (ICC) electromagnetic spectrum operations cell (EMSOC), ICC detachment EMSOCs, FMF command elements and major subordinate command levels, EMSO Planners advise commanders and staffs on the employment of EMSO assets that synchronize aspects of intelligence, spectrum management, electronic attack (EA), electronic warfare support (ES), electronic protection (EP), cyberspace warfare and space operations into the commanders scheme of maneuver.

EMSO Planners maintain relationships with EMSO system subject matter experts (SMEs), as well as joint and coalition capability SMEs and planners.

EMSO Planners are also represented within the service headquarters and supporting establishment to support the development and integration of EMSO capabilities into the operating forces.

Prerequisites

Must be a U.S.

citizen.

Security requirement: must meet sensitive compartmented information (SCI) eligibility guidelines based on a current single scope background investigation (SSBI)/T5 investigation.

Requirements

Must complete the Electronic Warfare Officer Qualification Course (A09D212) at Ft Eisenhower, GA.

The following courses support career progression: Joint Electronic Warfare Theater Operations Course (JEWTOC) (F16ABB5), Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX.

Joint Targeting Staff Course (N46HFS3), Norfolk, VA.

Waivers to any prerequisites or requirements must be submitted to and approved by the 1700 occupational field manager, HQMC DC I, IMD.
