1706 - Maritime Space Officer

Summary

Maritime Space Officers (MSO) serve as the principal advisor for integration of space effects and capabilities into fleet marine force (FMF) operations.

They serve as commanders and staff officers in the FMF, on joint assignments, and in key billets throughout the information community.

MSOs are responsible for the deliberate, detailed planning and employment of space capabilities and effects, as well as the coordination and integration of space operations into a unit’s overall scheme of maneuver.

They evaluate both friendly and adversary capabilities, and develop, coordinate, and execute approved space operations activities.

Prerequisites

Must be a U.S.

citizen.

Security requirement: must have a current T5 investigation and adjudicated for SCI eligibility.

Lateral move additional prerequisites: Must have accepted career designation.

Must be worldwide deployable at the time SNO is approved for lateral move into the 1706 MOS.

All applicants must be screened and recommended for a lateral move by a screening panel in accordance with the applicable lateral move solicitation MARADMIN message.

Requirements

Complete the Space Operations Officer Qualification Course (SOOQC), (F25M5K4) US Army Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence (USA SMDCoE), Colorado Springs, CO.

Complete the MAGTF Operations in the Information Environment Practitioner (MOPC) (N03F2G1), Expeditionary Warfare Training Group, Atlantic (EWTGLANT), Little Creek, VA.

SNO is granted the 1706 MOS upon graduation from SOOQC and MOPC.

MOS training validation and MOS granting authority is managed by the Information Maneuver OccFld manager, DC I.

For MOS and career progression, the following courses are encouraged: Joint Targeting Staff Course (N46HFS3), Joint Targeting School, Virginia Beach, VA.

Staff Operations in the Information Environment Planner Course (SOPC) (N03HE51), EWTGLANT, Little Creek, VA.

Any of these requirements may be waived by the deputy commandant for Information based on unique work or educational experience.
