2641 - Cryptologic Language Analyst
Summary
Cryptologic Language Analysts (CLA) monitor, transcribe, and translate intercepted target foreign communications; exploit every phase of designated foreign communications by engaging in collection, processing, exploitation, analysis, and reporting; and install, operate, and perform preventive maintenance of program of record as well as commercially acquired intercept equipment.
Duties encompass all facets of signals intelligence (SIGNT), electronic warfare (EW) and cyber operations in support of the MAGTF at both team and battalion levels and must be prepared to contribute to each as deemed necessary by the unit commander.
Marines shall periodically (annually or biennially, dependent on scores) retake the defense language proficiency test (DLPT) and shall maintain a minimum proficiency of Listening 2/Reading (L2/R2) DLPT in their assigned 27XX language(s), in accordance with reference (bb).
Formal intermediate and advanced language training is available and will be afforded to CLAs no later than upon PCS from their first duty station.
Per DoDI 3300.07, CLAs will engage, during normal duty hours, a minimum of 160 hours of formal language training every 24 months.
MOS 2629, SIGINT/EW/CO Technician, is assigned upon promotion to staff sergeant.
Marines shall maintain language proficiency in their assigned 27XX language(s) upon assignment of MOS 2629.
Prerequisites
Must be a U.S.
citizen.
No speech or hearing defects.
Must meet the requirements for EMOS 2712 to 2796.
Must possess a CL score of 110 or GT score of 105 or higher.
Must successfully complete a counter-intelligence scope polygraph examination.
Security requirement: must have a current single scope background investigation/T5 investigation and adjudicated for sensitive compartmented information (SCI) eligibility.
Must take the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) in the Marine’s assigned 27XX language(s) and maintain a minimum proficiency of L2/R2 in accordance with reference (bb).
Graduation from a basic language course at the Defense Language Institute (DLI).
Basic Language Course may be waived if significant proficiency in an appropriate language is demonstrated by achieving minimum level 2 proficiency on the listening and reading portions of the DLPT in accordance with reference (bb).
Assignment to DLI requires a minimum score of 100 or higher on the defense language aptitude battery (DLAB).
The DLAB score may be waived on a case-by-case basis if significant foreign language experience is demonstrated, or a GT score over 110 is achieved and if such a waiver is requested by the recruit screening office at the applicable Marine Corps Recruiting Depot and approved by Headquarters Marine Corps, Intelligence Division.
For Marines executing a lateral move into this MOS, the waiver request will originate with the marine’s career planner and will be approved by the 2641 specialist at intelligence division.

Complete one of the following Cryptologic Language requirements for the associated 27XX EMOS: Marines assigned EMOS 2712 through 2717 and 2728 through 2731 must complete the Middle East Cryptologic Linguist-Arabic Course (F072911).
Marines assigned EMOS 2736 through 2737 must complete the Apprentice Cryptologic Analyst-Chinese Course (F072931).
Marines assigned EMOS 2741 must complete the Asian-Pacific Cryptologic Linguist-Korean Course (F072971).
Marines assigned EMOS 2791 must complete Central Asian Cryptologic Linguist-Russian Course (F0729A1).
Marines assigned EMOS 2768 must complete the European Cryptologic Linguist-Spanish Course (F0729C1).
Marines assigned EMOS 2773 must complete the Voice Interceptor Persian-Farsi Course (F07CXF1).
Marines assigned EMOS 2772 must complete the Pashto Supplemental Cryptologic Language Course (F07RHQ1).
Marines assigned any EMOS 2712 through 2796 not listed in paragraphs a.
through g.
must complete the Apprentice Cryptologic Linguist Specialist Non-Target Course (F07CXE1).
