4453 - Expert Litigator
Summary
An Expert Litigator is a senior judge advocate qualified to serve in the most senior military justice litigation billets.
Expert Litigators have demonstrated ability to litigate, lead, mentor, and supervise judge advocates assigned as trial, defense, victims legal, and appellate counsel (including senior and supervisory litigators) in the most complex and high profile cases.
Prerequisites
Must be a judge advocate.
Must be selected by a board conducted in accordance with MCO 5800.16.
Must possess at least 96 months of cumulative military justice experience as a trial counsel, defense counsel, victims legal counsel, appellate government or defense counsel, military trial or appellate judge; corresponding billets within the Office of Military Commissions; military justice or criminal law instructor at formal schools; military justice policy assignments at Headquarters Marine Corps or the Office of the Judge Advocate General of the Navy.
Experience as a state or federal civilian prosecutor or defense counsel, or in an external litigation Fellowship, may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Requirements
Judge Advocate Division, in conjunction with DC, M&RA (MMOA), is responsible for assignment of this AMOS.

Duties
May serve in any other MOS 4402 billet.
Judge Advocates with an AMOS of victims legal counsel serve as legal counsel for victims of qualifying offenses and represent them in investigative, administrative, and military justice proceedings.
