5959 - Air Traffic Control Systems Maintenance Chief

Summary

Air Traffic Control Systems Maintenance Chiefs supervise, coordinate, and instruct enlisted personnel in the performance of air traffic control maintenance functions.

Provide information concerning the capabilities, limitations, and reliability of air traffic control systems and equipment.

Instruct operation and maintenance of air traffic control systems.

Perform staff support duties in formulating and implementing maintenance and supply plans, provisioning air traffic control systems, and preparing publications and training materials.

Supervises surveying, siting, installation, modification, and maintenance tasks.

Supervise Air Traffic Control Maintenance Personnel in MOSs 5951, 5952, 5953, and 5954.

Must possess a working knowledge of applicable Marine Corps Ground Equipment and Naval Aviation Maintenance Programs.

Prerequisites

Must have previously held MOSs 5951, 5952, 5953, or 5954.

Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.

Some operational billets may require top secret or top secret with sensitive compartmented information eligibility.

Requirements

This MOS is career progression for MOSs: 5951, 5952, 5953, and 5954.

Successfully complete the MATC Maintenance Managers Course (MMC) (N23KCN2) at NATTC Pensacola, FL to receive the Intended MOS (IMOS) of 5959I.

After the completion of the MATC Maintenance Managers Course and upon promotion to the rank of Master Sergeant, the MOS 5959 will be granted and reported in MCTFS.

Master Gunnery Sergeants in this MOS are highly encouraged to attend the MACCS Maintenance Course (M0968K1), at Marine Corps Communications and Electronics School, Twentynine Palms, Ca when appropriate space permits.

Duties

MGySgt and MSgt: Supervises personnel in the performance of air traffic control maintenance functions.

Inspects and schedules maintenance for air traffic control maintenance personnel.

Instructs personnel in operation and maintenance of air traffic control systems and equipment.

Supervises and assists maintenance personnel in requisitioning parts and supplies from the Marine Corps and Navy supply system.

Supervises surveying, siting, installation, or maintenance tasks on air traffic control systems.

Ensures system/equipment performance evaluation and qualification, problem identification, and to measure improvement efforts.

MGySgt: Provides staff support in planning and implementing the maintenance management of air traffic control systems and equipment.

Assists the Maintenance Officer in the determination of air traffic control maintenance policy and the inventory management program of air traffic control systems.
