Summary
Fixed-Wing Aircraft Airframe Mechanics, F35 inspect, service, maintain, and repair aircraft airframe structures, composite material, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and landing gear systems.
Prerequisites
Must be a U.S.
citizen.
Must have normal color perception.
Must have a five year term of enlistment.
Must possess a MM score of 95 or higher.
Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.
Requirements
Complete the following course(s): Aviation Structural Mechanic Core Course (N23WSG2).
F-35 Airframes Systems Technician Course (N56F3X2).
E-4 and above lateral movers who have completed the Aviation Structural Mechanic Core Course (N23WSG2), may attend the F-35 Aircraft Mechanic Organizational Maintenance Course at VMFAT 501 (M16F3X1) or VMFAT-502 (M17F3XC).

Duties
For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to reference(s) (ad) COMNAVAIRFORINST and 4790.2 (bn) NAVMC 4790.1.
Assist in pre-flight/post flight inspection of the aircraft.
Assist in start-up/shut down of the aircraft.
Employ operational risk management principles.
Perform a multitude of ground handling duties such as, but not limited to, taxi directing of aircraft, towing of aircraft, refueling of aircraft, securing/un-securing of aircraft, etc.
Perform ground maintenance tasks and repairs on aircraft and mission systems.
Perform aircraft cleaning.
Interpret technical manual/correspondence (i.e.
instructions, drawings, and/or diagrams).
Identify and diagnose aircraft and mission systems malfunctions.
Document all aircraft inspections, maintenance, and repairs in a maintenance management database system.
Order parts and materials needed for maintenance/repairs.
Provide training via self-paced readings, labs, and on-the-job training to individuals in the performance of ground maintenance duties.
Basic computer skills.
Be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong written and verbal communications skills are necessary in the performance of duties.
Utilize a multitude of information management systems.
Utilize maintenance training management database systems, to track maintenance training progression and qualifications.
Planning/scheduling/management of personnel and assets to varying degrees which increases with each promotion in rank: Sergeant and below-job/task leader.
SSgt-shift supervisor.
Gunnery Sergeant-work center supervisor/division chief.
Create and manage a training plan for the career progression of Marines and sustainment of required maintenance skills/qualifications and all Marine Corps required training.
For career progression Marines should seek to hold the following billets/qualifications: LCpl-Plane Captain.
Cpl-Collateral Duty Inspector.
Sgt-Collateral Duty Inspector.
In addition to the above qualifications/billets, the ranks of SSgt and GySgt should hold a minimum qualification of Collateral Duty Inspector (ready to be a Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative as required by squadron needs).
Additionally, they should seek to hold the following billets/ qualifications: Quality Assurance (Quality Assurance Representative), Maintenance Control (Safe-For-Flight Qualified).
