8059 - Marine Acquisition Officer-Aviation
Summary
A Marine Acquisition Officer-Aviation is selected from a panel of eligible candidates for lateral transition into the occupation field.
This officer is normally assigned to critical acquisition positions (CAP) or key leadership positions (KLP), per guidance found in the DoDI 5000 series.
They provide senior level leadership over aviation equities throughout the entire acquisition lifecycle.
The MOS ensures a sufficient pool of senior acquisition leaders exist to assume the role of Acquisition Category I-IV (ACAT I-IV) Program Manager, Fleet Repair Center (FRC) Commanding Officer, or Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) Commanding Officer for Marine Corps equities.
Prerequisites
Must possess FMOS 8057.
Security requirement: secret security clearance eligibility.
Unrestricted officers holding a primary MOS from OccFld: 60XX, 66XX, 72XX, 73XX, or 75XX.
Must be a major select or higher who has less than 24 years of active commissioned service as of 1 June of the current fiscal year (FY); and who is not currently slated for command as a result of the current FY command screening board.

Duties
The Marine Acquisition Officer-Aviation is key to the entire systems acquisition process.
They are accountable for taking a new validated requirement from concept exploration to the deployment and sustainment of an operational piece of equipment to its eventful disposal-cradle to grave.
In broad terms, responsibilities involve keeping a program within budget, on schedule, meeting key performance parameters, and ensuring life-cycle sustainability and proper disposal.
Specific responsibilities include, but not limited to, the following tasks: program initiation, justification and validation; cost analysis and estimation; system development program management; systems engineering management; manpower and training systems management; life cycle system support management; program financial management; providing planning, programming and budgeting system support to acquisition program and appropriate USMC/USN appropriation sponsors; and program technical data and documentation planning.
