8834 - Technical Information Operations Officer

Summary

Technical Information Operations (IO) Officers identify, describe, and apply concepts, theories, and practices associated with the employment of information across the range of military operations.

These officers develop and support information DOTMLPF solutions as part of the requirements or acquisitions process.

Officers will also plan, coordinate, execute and assess IO on MAGTFs.

Prerequisites

Security requirement: TS/SCI security clearance eligibility.

Requirements

Complete the Information Warfare (IW) curriculum, number 595 at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.

In accomplishing this, the officer must have: Earned a master’s degree in information warfare systems engineering.

Completed a thesis on a topic relating to information operations.

Graduate must have a solid understanding of the Marine Corps planning process in order to participate in technical IO planning as part of the MAGTF Command Element (CE) staff.

Duties

Plans, supervises, coordinates and executes research, design, development, and testing of information concepts, and information related systems and equipment.

Monitors technological developments in the information field to ensure planning reflects future systems development and prepares procurement plans and programs for information related systems and equipment.

Assists in the development of information policy to guide commands in the development of strategy, doctrine, and systems procurement.

Develops Information doctrine that allows for the development of plans, education and training in the conduct of information.

Advises the commanding officer, operations officer, and the information working group lead on the technical aspects of information in order to provide integrated, synchronized, and coordinated effects in the information environment to achieve an operational advantage for the commander.

Serve as a subject matter expert and staff planner for MAGTF information working groups in the fields of electronic warfare and information operations.
