ABH Aviation Boatswain's Mate, Aircraft Handling

The U.S. Navy classifies jobs as enlisted ratings, not Military Occupational Specialties (MOS).

ABH stands for Aviation Boatswain’s Mate, Aircraft Handling.

ABHs are responsible for launching and recovering naval aircraft from ships or land.

They are versatile and important members of the Navy.

ABHs perform the following duties: Supervise the movement, spotting, and securing of aircraft and equipment Operate, maintain, and perform organizational maintenance on ground-handling equipment Perform crash rescue, fire fighting, crash removal, and damage control duties

ABHs can earn the advanced AB rating later in their careers. This rating requires supervision of all individual specialties. The AB rating requires a 60 month (5 year) service obligation.

ABH “A” schools are six weeks in duration and are located in Pensacola, Florida.
