AO Aviation Ordnanceman
The Navy MOS AO, or Aviation Ordnanceman, is responsible for maintaining and inspecting airborne weapons and aviation ordnance equipment. This includes aircraft guns, gun accessories, small arms, ammunition, and handling equipment.
Aviation Ordnancemen perform a variety of duties, including: Servicing aircraft guns and accessories Assembling, stowing, and loading aviation ammunition, including rockets, torpedoes, missiles, and aerial mines Maintaining, repairing, and inspecting aircraft electrical and mechanical armament/ordnance systems Receiving, inspecting, packaging, storing, handling, and processing for shipment airborne weapons, air launched torpedoes, aerial mines, sonobuoys, pyrotechnics, and ammunition Maintaining, testing, assembling, loading, downloading, arming, and de-arming all airborne weapons, aircraft gun systems, targets, sonobuoys, and more Stowing, issuing, and loading munitions and small arms
Aviation Ordnancemen may perform their duties at sea on flight decks or on land in hangars, shops, or flight lines at air stations. They do not have any formal education requirements.
