AT Aviation Electronics Technician

Aviation electronics technician (AT) is an enlisted rating or job specialty in the United States Navy. ATs are responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting all electrical systems on an aircraft.

These systems include: Infrared detection, Tactical displays, Warfare sensors, Radar, Communication, Navigation.

ATs are trained to inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot these systems. They may perform flight deck troubleshooting for an electronics weapon system on an aircraft or change computer circuit cards in a shop. They may also volunteer to fly as part of a Naval aircrew.

After completing training, ATs may be assigned to a naval air station, squadron, aircraft carrier, or other aviation facility. Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

At the paygrade of E-9 (master chief petty officer), ATs merge with the aviation electrician’s mate (AE) rating to become avionics technicians (AV).
