AWV Naval Aircrewman Avionics
Naval Aircrewmen (Avionics) (AWV) are members of a fixed wing aircrew aboard maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft.
They operate and maintain aircraft systems to support missions such as: Anti-submarine (ASW) Anti-surface (ASUW) Electronic countermeasure (ESM) Strategic nuclear deterrence
AWVs also serve as Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) pilots and payload operators. They detect, analyze, classify, and track sub-surface contacts. They also perform sonar and sonobuoy operations.
AWVs are knowledgeable of all mission and flight avionics systems, safety equipment, emergency procedures, and aircraft equipment. They are assigned to naval air stations, squadrons, aircraft carriers, or other aviation facilities in the United States or overseas. About 60% of their assignments take place at sea.
AWVs should be current in complex aircraft, such as EP-3 or E-6B, or in UAS systems to be considered best and fully qualified for E7-E9.
